What’s in a name?

My surname is from Italy. It looks hard to say but actually it’s pretty easy! The ‘sc’ in Italian is pronounced sh. So it sounds like ‘mishosha’ my husband says ‘Miscioscia like dishwasher’ which I don’t quite understand but if it helps you remember it I don’t mind. Not exactly glamorous! If you can think of something more fabulous let me know!

I adore everything to do with nature and the great outdoors. I love exploring the local countryside, foraging and learning about different plant species. I grew up in a big industrial city in Italy, wishing I could stomp through muddy countryside and now my dream has come true!

reflections

Watching the changes of the seasons, the sound of the autumn leaf crinkling, the feel of the icy winter wind on my cheek, the scented blossom on my daily walks and the morning light glistening through a buttercup, this is what makes me feel alive and safe. Safe in the knowledge Mother Nature is on her cyclical journey no matter what else is going on in the world.

It helps me stop and pause, reflect and feel endless gratitude. It makes me want to grab the nearest camera and capture the world around me as I see and feel it.

Ethos

I feel a profound desire to protect nature as well as document it. I want to continue to enjoy the changing seasons as I get older and ensure my children are able to enjoy them too. I do everything I can in my every day life to help with this mission and continue to learn about how I can grow to do it even better every day.

My journey…

I grew up just outside of Milan in Italy. When I came to the UK a chunk of family albums were misplaced and consequently I was missing a part of my history. I had always loved watching my Nonno with his cine camera and I inherited it. This fostered my love for creating images and I will never forget receiving my first Canon film camera at the age of 18. I took this traveling and documented my adventures around the world. I had the joy of developing these in a dark room when I returned which was so exciting.

In 2013 I bought my second Canon camera - the first digital one I’d owned. I had recently started working at Shakespeare’s Globe and I had 10 wonderful years capturing actors on and backstage and even got my photographs published across the world.

Once my children were born I upgraded again (still a Canon!) and started documenting little details of their lives. Just after the Covid Lockdown, other families asked me to capture their reunited loved ones, and so this family photography business began in earnest. I finally finally feel I have found my calling and have never been happier.
